Owners in Honor Accessibility Statement

Effective Date: September 2, 2026

Website: www.ownersinhonor.org

1. Our Commitment

Owners in Honor is committed to providing a website experience that is accessible to everyone, including people with disabilities. We strive to adhere to accepted guidelines and standards for accessibility and continue evolving our site to be inclusive and user-friendly.

2. Standards & Guidelines

We aim to make our site compatible with WCAG 2.1 (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines) at Level AA. These international standards ensure our content is perceivable, operable, understandable, and robust across various assistive technologies.

3. Accessibility Features

While our site is under continuous review, here are some current accessibility-oriented design features:

  • Keyboard Navigation
Users can utilize the keyboard (e.g., Tab key) to navigate the main menu—Home, About, Media, Meet Our Brands, Services, Donate, etc.

  • Alt Text for Images
All images (e.g., DSC05003.jpg, logo images) include alt text (e.g., “Owners In Honor Logo”) to facilitate screen reader descriptions.

  • Clear Structure & Heading Hierarchy
Content is semantically organized: headings (e.g., “From the Frontlines to the Founder’s Seat”), subheadings, lists (e.g., bullet points outlining the need and services), providing structured navigation for assistive tools.

4. Areas for Improvement

To enhance accessibility, we plan to:

  • Improve Color Contrast
Evaluate color combinations (text vs. background) to ensure they meet WCAG AA standards for readability.

  • Provide ARIA Labels
Use ARIA (Accessible Rich Internet Applications) roles and attributes to better describe interactive components (e.g., “Apply Now,” “Donate” buttons) for screen readers.

  • Ensure Focus Visibility
Confirm that the default keyboard focus indicator is present and visible on interactive elements.

  • Enhance Accessible Forms
If forms (e.g., application or login) are present, make sure each field is labeled clearly and includes error-handling guidance.

5. Third-Party Integrations

Where we integrate platforms (e.g., community app, donation portals, social icons), we test and ensure these maintain accessibility or provide accessible alternatives when needed.

6. Browser & Assistive Technology Support

We strive for compatibility with major browsers (Chrome, Safari, Firefox, Edge) and assistive technologies, including screen readers such as NVDA, JAWS, and VoiceOver. We regularly test with these tools to ensure effective navigation and interaction.

7. Feedback & Support

We value feedback to enhance accessibility. If you encounter any issues or have suggestions, please reach out:

  • Contact: Use the "Contact Us" link on the site

  • Response Expectation: Submit feedback via email or form, including details such as the page URL, issue description, browser/device used, and any assistive tools. We aim to respond within 3 business days and address the concern promptly.

8. Future Development

Accessibility is a continuous effort. As we update content, add new features, or adjust our design, we will:

  • Conduct accessibility audits (manual and automated)

  • Perform usability testing with users of assistive technologies

  • Document and address identified issues

9. Legal Compliance

Owners in Honor endeavors to meet or exceed applicable accessibility laws, guidelines, and best practices, including Section 508 (U.S.) and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). This statement reflects our ongoing commitment to inclusivity.
